KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda scored fine half centuries as The Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Monday.
After being put into bat by SRH skipper, Lucknow got off to a poor start as Quinton de Kock (1) was caught brilliantly by Kane Williamson at short extra cover off Washington Sundar.
Evin Lewis was then trapped leg before wicket by Sundar, as he missed his slog-sweep.
Manish Pandey joined in and hit Romario Shepherd for a four and a six but perished soon after, caught at mid-on by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 11 as the LSG were reduced to 27/3.
Rahul and Deepak Hooda stitched together a 87 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter was caught at mid wicket boundary by Rahul Tripathi off Shepherd for a 33 ball-51.
The Karnataka star scored a well made 68 off 50 balls, before being trapped in front by T Natarajan.
The left-arm seamer also dismissed Krunal Pandya (6) in the same over.
In the end, Ayush Badoni made a useful 19 to take Lucknow to a competitive total of 169/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Sunrisers, Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd and T Natarajan claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 170, Sunrisers lost skipper Kane Williamson in the fourth over, caught at short fine leg by Andrew Tye off Avesh Khan for 16.
Abhishek Sharma (13) fell cheaply, slicing a cutter from Avesh to Tye at short fine leg.
Rahul Tripathi got a reprieve when Deepak Hooda dropped a catch at gully off the LSG pacer.
Tripathi along with Aiden Markram added 44 runs for the third wicket before the latter was caught at covers by Rahul off Krunal Pandya.
The 31 year old Tripathi’s impressive knock of 44 ended, as he slog-swept a Krunal delivery to Ravi Bishnoi at deep midwicket.
Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar put on 48 runs for the fifth wicket before Avesh turned the tide in Lucknow’s favour- first by dismissing Pooran (34) and then getting Abdul Samad for a first ball duck.
With 16 needed off the last over Jason Holder claimed the wickets of Washington Sundar (18), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) and Romario Shepherd (8) as the Sunrisers were restricted to 157/9 in 20 overs.
Avesh Khan was adjudged the player of the match for his impressive figures of 4/24.
