The 38th match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium on April 20. Ahead of the same, MI players Tilak Varma, Deepak Chahar, and Trent Boult shared their thoughts on IPL’s ‘El Clasico’.
Tilak acknowledged the excitement of playing against CSK, admitting that the presence of CSK captain MS Dhoni adds some pressure. The 22-year-old also reflected on his past contributions to MI’s victories against CSK, emphasising that staying calm will help him stay focused during the match.
“It’s a high pressure game, and there’s a lot of pressure in this game. Mahi bhai will be in front of me, so he’s always on his toes. So, it’s always fun to play a game between MI and CSK. I always enjoy this match-up. I’ve done well in MI vs CSK games all time, and we’ve had good matches. In 2-3 games, I had a contribution to win in MI against Chennai, so I always try to follow that. I’m calm and it helps me a lot in the game,” Tilak told Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Chahar admitted that the game against CSK will be a challenging one. The former CSK player acknowledged that both sides are familiar with each other’s strengths, which adds to the intensity of the contest.
“I think as a cricketer, it’s a challenging game for me, in CSK. I know the players I’ve already played with. At the same time, they know me and my strength, and they know what I’m going to do. They have an idea, so as a player, it’s going to be a challenging game,” said Deepak Chahar.
Meanwhile, Boult acknowledged that both teams are quality sides with massive fan followings. The left-arm pacer added that it is not a rivalry but rather a great spectacle, and expressed his eagerness to put on a great show for the team and the fans.
“It’s going to come around very quickly, and quality side, big fan following. It doesn’t get any easier than that, that’s for sure. Is it a rivalry? I wouldn’t say it’s a rivalry. It’s just a great spectacle, because we can’t wait to get into it. Looking forward to putting on a great show,” said Boult.
